Lesson 08 — The Language of Landscape
Combarro
The lesson
An old fishing village on the Galician coast, famous for its hórreos.
This lesson brings back my Spanish trip of summer 2019, along the coastal road of northern Spain — Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia. One of the places was Combarro, an old fishing village on the Galician coast. I couldn’t resist stopping there for a couple of days to sketch and paint.
The village is famous for its hórreos, small traditional granaries once used to keep food. Today they attract tourists — and for us painters, they make a wonderful subject.
